Date Listed: Aug-03-08 Hello! It’s a pleasure to have you here!
I am so glad you are here to see this beautiful French dish, a pretty saucer from the 19th century … that would be before the last one.
It’s about 111+ years old. The piece dates back to as early as c. 1888 It is appropriately marked and documented for the collector.
COLLECTIBLES CONDITION Excellent Antique ~ Shiny & Bright Moss Green, Pinks & Light Lavender Floral Transfer Ware~ Relatively Unscathed ~ Footed Saucer Is Raised Up Concave Shape ~ Overall Near Mint Condition With Only A Tiny Fleabite Nick To The Rim Easily Lost Within Scalloped Edges Of Raised Relief & Decorative Points
MEASUREMENTS It stands approximately 6”across and raises up ¾” from tabletop.
MARKINGS Two Backstamps Authenticate 1888-1896 Mfg. Date (1) Green Underglaze ‘H&Co.’, ‘L’ for Limoges, and (2) Red ‘Haviland & Co Limoges’ for decorators overstamp.
PATTERN The decorative aspects feature a gorgeous trailing floral of the palest of pinks and lavenders with mauve undertones done in a watercolor style. Landscape is white porcelain. Pretty rose blooms and buds incorporated near the center indentation.
Exquisite and sophisticated Limoges workmanship is an unsurpassed quality and beauty of intricate embellishments surrounding pieces like this one.
This tableware is characterized by whiteness, a delicate appearance and translucence. Porcelain bone china was made by adding bone ash to further increase its ability to let light through. Because of the type of porcelain used at the time, this saucer and all Haviland & Co. porcelain bone china gives a familiar bell-like ring tone when struck.
HISTORY Haviland & Co. of Theodore Haviland and Charles Haviland began in 1864 and the company dissolved in 1891 with each of the men going their separate way.
I have a sugar bowl in this pattern and a few other Limoges you may want to see.
