Date Listed: Aug-25-08 Hello and welcome, I am so glad you are here seeing this!
Today I list for your collectibles consideration a pretty sugar bowl from the 19th century …We are now in the 21st century, so that is before the last one. The set is 111+ years old and both pieces are appropriately marked.
CONDITION Shiny & Bright Moss Green, Pinks And Light Lavender Grey Floral Transfer Ware Is Relatively Unscathed ~ Gold Trim Loss Commensurate With Age, Wear & Use ~ Untouched Discreet Sugar Bowl Chip On Rim Is Small & Barely Felt With Fingertip There Are A Couple Of Sharp Spots Deep Into The Lid’s Scalloping Edges ~ Overall Antique Is Unremarkable With Out Other Flaws, Cracks, Chips Or Damage
Footed Sugar Bowl With Bulbous Panels Finished With Scalloped Edges ~ Raised Relief Cover ~ Stunning & Highly Decorative Points
Exquisite and sophisticated Limoges workmanship is an unsurpassed quality and beauty of intricate embellishments surrounding pieces like this one.
This tableware is characterized by whiteness, a delicate appearance and translucence. Porcelain bone china was made by adding bone ash to further increase its ability to let light through. Because of the type of porcelain used at the time, this sugar bowl and Haviland & Co. porcelain bone china gives a familiar bell-like ring tone when struck.
MARKINGS ~ Two Back Stamps Authenticate 1888-1896 Mfg. Date
(1) Sugar Bowl Green Underglaze ‘H&Co.’, ‘L’ for Limoges, Red ‘Haviland & Co Limoges’ for decorators over stamp.
(2) Lid Red ‘Haviland & Co Limoges’ for decorators over stamp.
PATTERN The decorative aspects outside and inside the entire shape feature a gorgeous trailing floral of the palest of pinks and lavenders with mauve undertones done in a watercolor style. Landscape is white porcelain with two raised embossing gold ribbon handles. Pretty rose blooms and buds form a lovely circle below the gold lilted loop finial top. Additional lush gold brush strokes highlight an elaborate footed base.
MEASUREMENTS It stands approximately 3-1/2” high from the base to top of the lid.
I also have a saucer in this identical pattern and a few other Limoges items.
