Bedford S-Type Tanker.  The S-type, or “Big Bedford’, was

produced from 1950 to 1960 and created a new class of goods

vehicles – 4 wheelers capable of carrying 7 tons.  A wide

variety of wheelbase, power plant and body type combinations

were offered, and the tanker bodies carried petroleum products

and other bulk liquid loads.  A huge selection of tanks were

supplied by firms such as Charles Roberts of Horbury Junction,

and The Yorkshire Engineering & Welding Co.”

MARKINGS

Colorful green cab marked “Scottish Oils And Shell-Mex Ltd”

on its 2 doors.  Identical “Shell Petroleum Products BP” lettering

and logos on both sides of bright red tanker body (upside down

on left and right side up on right).  Underneath is embossed with

“Big Bedford” and “Vanguards Made In England By Lledo PLC 

Enfield EN3 4NC”.

CONDITION

Toy vehicle is absolutely mint and so is the box.

(Note: plastic preformed shell is crushed and torn

up a bit on the left inside mint cardboard box.)
