Pit Bull Terrier - Medium - Young - Female - Dog - Peppermint
Description
Please read all of the information provided on this page before contacting Pit Prints Rescue directly: the answers to most questions about this dog can be found by reading the information below, or about our adoption requirements by visiting our Requirements for Adoption page. Peppermint is an adorable 1 1/2 year old white female American Pit Bull Terrier. This sweetheart has found herself homeless after her owners dumped her; she was taken in by a very sweet couple who just do not have the time or home to accommodate a Pittie, so they are desperate to find Peppermint a home with someone who appreciates her breed, and can offer her a loving, stable, forever home. When found, Peppermint was underweight and very afraid, but she has since been given a loving temporary home where she is fed regularly and has been cared for, so she has blossomed. Peppermint is currently undergoing training to address some issues that she has when in public places (like vets) when she is afraid; she tends to not like strangers who want to "do things" (ie, veterinary procedures) to her, so we're hoping that with training she'll become desensitized to such surroundings and will no longer fear strangers who have to handle her. To clarify, she ONLY dislikes being in settings such as a vet or kennel type setting; she's VERY welcoming to strangers who want to pet her, she's just not comfortable with allowing strangers at the vet, or at a kennel (a big part of the kennel situation is that she is more upset with the dogs barking at her than at the people handling her) to handle her all over and perform procedures, without her being muzzled. If you can overlook the issues that Peppermint has in strange places with people who want to do things to her, Peppermint is an easy-going, lovable, fun-loving Pittie who truly adores the company of people. She also enjoys going for walks, car rides, and being goofy...and she favors toys (especially those that bounce and she can chase), treats (particularly knuckle bones, sow ears, and pig skin twists), and LOTS of attention. Peppermint adores her people, and wants nothing more than to please her people- she is extremely affectionate, and loves to snuggle. She is very eagar to please, walks well on leash, and is a quick learner- she knows basic obedience commands, and listens well. Peppermint makes no complaints about being bathed, groomed, handled all over, or having items removed from her mouth by people she knows; as mentioned above, she's not so comfortable being handled by strangers, but LOVES to meet new people. She would do best in a home with a FIRM owner who can be assertive and disciplinary when she needs it, but also someone who is kind and sweet to her. Peppermint interacts well with some other dogs, though due to the Pit Bulls' tendency for same sex dog aggression, she will not be placed in a home with another female dog. Peppermint is housebroken and crate trained She has been spayed, kept current on vaccines, heartworm tested negative, kept current on heartworm prevention, fecal tested, dewormed, and microchipped. There is a $200.00 adoption fee to partially reimburse the organization for the veterinary expenses listed above. Peppermint is looking for an INDOOR home, ONLY: we do not adopt to homes that will keep our rescued Pitties outdoors and/or on chains, runners, or in fences, kennels, pens, etc- If you cannot/will not provide an indoor home for our Bullies, or are looking to breed/fight, do NOT contact our organization (or apply for adoption) regarding Peppermint or any of our rescued Pit Bulls. Application, adoption fee, home checks, references, and contract are REQUIRED for adoption. To be considered for adoption, please fill out and submit an Application for Adoption BEFORE contacting us directly.
