Shar Pei - Medium - Young - Male - Dog - Max
Description
Max is a great dog but DESPERATELY needs a home of his own with a back yard to run and play in -- he is the sweetest sweetest dog and has had such a terribly tough time of it - if you are really sincerely looking to save a life, and give a wonderful dog a second chance, please consider our beautifulMaxwell. I was at the pound the day Max was brought in by his owner -- he said that Max mother was purebred Lab and his father was a Weimaraner/Sharpi mix (or it might have been the other way around but those are his three breeds - DESPITE being told "we are full and he will probably be euthanized at the close of business if you leave him with us" this pig said "whatever, I can't keep him anymore too many dogs" well, if he'd spayed his female ??????????? so Max paid the price. I took Max - he was so terrified in that shelter, he was trembling so bad he could not even walk - I had to carry him - so Max has had it very tough - with that kind of "love" I can only imagine what he endured at home -- Max was 6 months old when he came here and he was a mess -- he suffered from severe anxiety - he barked and barked and barked some more. He lost all his hair, he had tummy problems, he was just a mess. And ALL of it was anxiety. He was not comfortable in his own skin. I came so close several times to giving up on Max but he would look at me with those pleading loving sad eyes and I simply could not let go of him -- he had attached securely to my heart and I was DETERMINED to make a difference in his life - no matter what the cost to me in terms of rest, I have been through the grinder with Maxwell, but FINALLY FINALLY, FINALLY, Maxwell is ready for a new loving home. He is a little over a year old and just astonishingly loving. He will lay his head on your chest and reach out his paw to touch your face, he looks deep into your eyes and soul as though trying to make a connection with your spirit Max no longer barks to hear himself bark, he will bark to get ouf of his crate - but I don't expect that whoever adopts Max will keep him crated like he needs to be here - he has lots of monitored time out but he is still one of many and has to be crated when I am gone - in a forever home, though, I will expect that Max will be out most of the time and only crated for his protection while his family is at work or gone. He is fine with children but no young children because Max's energy level will not be appreciated by them - I'm afraid he will jump on them and knock them down. There is not a mean bone in Max's body but he does need older children if he goes to a home with kids. Max will be a PERFECT running partner - his energy is limitless - the weimariner in him totally controls his energy. The lab totally controls his temperament - you really only know he has shar pei by the wrinkles on his face and they are not deep and etched, but noticeable. Max will greet you with enthusiasm when you come home and make you feel like the King or Queen of his day (and you will be) - he worships the hand that feeds him LOL -- and can scarf up food like they will not make anymore. Max does have a sensitive stomach, so if you cannot afford an outstanding quality food, please don't consider Max. I consider his nutrition a "special need" - you will NEVER regret your investment in this wonderful dog. I am sorry to be so blunt about Max, but I have a lot of time - a lot lot lot of time and energy and sleepless nights invested in him, not to mention vet bills trying to get to the bottom of his anxiety problems and sensitive stomach. I have sacrificed for Maxwell like no other dog in the past and am so thankful that I was willing to go the distance with him. He is just so amazing - knowing what I know now, it would have been a horrible and unforgiveable loss to have given up on him. Maxwell gets along selectively with other dogs so he is probably not a good dog park dog and training will be mandatory for Max. I think with proper professional training, he will be fine with other dogs -- he just has a tendency to posture and play too rough - so I'd prefer for his sake and yours that until he has been trained you make him an only dog - You will have three months to enroll him in training and upon completion of basic obedience classes, I will refund 1/2 of your adoption fee. If you enroll and complete advanced training, I will refund the other half of your adoption fee. I am willing to work with anyone deserving of this dog's love to ensure that he has a stable permanent loving home. Despite over a thousand in vet bills (yep, we have invested heavily in Max) to get to the bottom of his problems, we are asking no more than our usual fee and will refund it in full for YOUR investment in his training -- THAT is a bargain for all the benefit you will receive from his training. He is a GREAT dog!! truly great. He has the saddest amber eyes that are just begging for attention and love - he breaks my heart because he is now so ready to be rehomed - you will be able to crate him safely and comfortably but only for reasonable amounts of time - he will get frustrated if overcrated and that is simply unacceptable for a forever home -- we are temporary -- I expect more from my adopters. Please give a look at our sad amber eyed beauty Max - consider giving a truly deserving dog a forever home -- Max has worked as hard as I to accomplish all that he has since his arrival -- I truly salute this dog for his stamina and courage - being willing to give ME a chance to work with him - and not giving up on ME either. .What a testimony to a dog's resilience Max is. 770-875-9659 deb@thedognextdoor.com
