The Engineering Manager will be responsible for both the design and manufacturing engineering departments. Critical success factors for this role include enforcing engineering standards, maximizing departmental output, developing people and leadership.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead the evaluation of current manufacturing and design processes for improvement in the areas of documentation, throughput, capability, repeatability, accuracy, and efficiency. Lead the development and implementation of processes where formal processes do not exist.

Lead the implementation of new products and improvement of existing products to achieve the highest quality, manufacturability, and cost effectiveness. Lead the development and implementation of the appropriate processes, equipment, fixtures, work cell layout, work instructions, and validation protocol.

Manage the engineering team dynamics, rosters and tooling necessary to implement a system that ensures safety, performance and reliability of products as outlined by senior management policies.

Facilitate the use of the automotive quality approaches (APQP, FMEA, MSA, and Control Plans) to achieve and maintain process quality and efficiency.

Facilitate cooperation with Quality and Purchasing to improve purchase part quality and reliability.

Lead the implementation of lean manufacturing techniques.

Participate and/or lead major cost improvement programs for existing products.

Supervise Designers, Drafters and Engineers and provide annual evaluations on performance and expectations.

Develop and manage the recruiting, on-boarding and training processes for new hires. REQUIRED SKILLS

Excellent personal skills in leadership, coaching and both written and verbal communication.

Proven success in leading diverse groups of engineers, designers, drafters and technicians.

General understanding and experience with Quality Systems.

General knowledge of pressure vessel codes. General understanding of CAD systems and network management. General knowledge of mechanical engineering design principles including structural, thermodynamics, fluid flow and heat transfer. General knowledge in stainless steel MIG/TIG welding, metal forming and piping assemblies.

Experience with automotive quality procedures (APQP, FMEA, MSA, SPC, and Control Plans) as well as improvement methods such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, DFM, and RCCA.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education BSME or other technical degree. MBA or MOT degree preferred but not required.

Minimum of 7 years previous engineering experience, preferably in cryogenics or pressure vessel related field.

Minimum 3 years previous management experience in a technical field.
