Graduate from an approved school of Histotechnology. Current license as a Histotechnologist. Certified by a professional laboratory certifying agency, i.e. ASCP or eligible. Processes surgical specimens for pathologic diagnosis, tissue fixation, processing, cutting, preparing and staining slides for microscopic examination by the Pathologist. Performs related special staining techniques, including immunohistochemical and enzymehistochemical stains and documents all quality control and preventive maintenance procedures. Performs trouble-shooting of staining processes and instruments. Prepares stock and working reagents and maintains an adequate supply. Performs specimen receiving and processing and answers the telephone and greets guests to the department. Regularly reports all abnormal findings to a senior technologist, the assistant manager and/or Pathologist. Assumes one or more of the following responsibilities: key operator duties, projects, teaching, tech in charge and evaluation of new technology.
